Of kidney stones and red rings of death [28 Aug 2007|08:49am]
[ mood | working ]

Hi, all. I'm at work, so obviously that means it's time to goof off on the internet and post to my severely ignored blog. I miss you all - some more than others, but everyone at least a little.

In case you aren't on Facebook, I'll briefly share that I'm living in Heath, OH and working in Newark, OH as an academic advisor at OSU-Newark. It's so much better than residence life at Muskingum. Evenings and weekends to myself, no duty, my own apartment that isn't located in a residence hall. Plus more money and I'm literally 2 minutes from the mall, restaurants, stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart, a bowling alley, and 2 Gamestops. Yay!

A couple of crappy things have happened recently. Friday before last I woke up with a horrible pain in the right side of my lower back. One thing led to another and I ended up in the hospital for 2 and a half days with a kidney stone. I got it taken out, but the pain isn't going away completely yet. Luckily they gave me lots of Vicodin!

Also, a few days ago I was playing my brand new Xbox 360 (for approximately the sixth time in the 3 weeks I owned it). All of a sudden, it went off. I looked down and there it was...the flashing red ring of death! Word to the wise - don't plug your 360 into a surge protector. Now I have to wait 3-4 weeks for Microsoft to replace it. Sadness. In the meantime I'm playing Okami and Xenosaga on my PS2 and Star Wars: KOTOR for original Xbox.

Love and hugs to all,

Yeah, I'm dumb. [01 Mar 2007|10:05am]
[ mood | excited ]

Friday is Spring Break closing at Muskingum College where I work so I have to be here to close my hall. I won't get to Athens until late, but I'm still coming to JCon. I do have a place to crash, but I can stay out as late as I want. How late is the new Baker Center open? It'd be cool to go there for a bit. Or whatever people want to do. Anyway, see you tomorrow!

I miss Athens! (Cross-posted from Xanga) [28 Feb 2007|01:15pm]
[ mood | busy ]

So, I'm coming in for a visit. Yay and stuff. I'm thinking of going to the JCON showing on Friday.

Saturday I'll be attending the Chester's House taping. I've been told that I"m welcome at the wrap party, but I need something to do between the two. Any takers?

IM me at bobkitten316 or drop a line to ldowler@muskingum.edu. I miss you guys! Thanks for being my home away from home when I need a break from this shitty job of mine.

Question for JConvicts [24 Oct 2006|11:15am]
[ mood | cold ]

I didn't want to use the JCon LJ for this, but I need some advice. I know very little about anime, but I know absolutely nothing about manga and I'd like to start getting into it a little bit. How should I go about getting my feet wet? What should I start with? Where should I buy it? Or is it available online? Any basic info would help a bunch. Thanks!

Like anyone is going to read this damn thing. : ) [09 Jul 2006|07:35pm]
(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now. × I don't watch much TV these days. × I own lots of books.
I wear glasses or contact lenses. I love to play video games. × I've tried marijuana.
I've watched porn movies. I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.
it goes on... )

Random Thoughts [23 Jun 2006|04:02pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

My newest life mission is to stop people from using the words "gay" and "stupid" interchangeably.

Stephen Colbert is the funniest person on the planet. "This is the Colbert Report. Or, for our foreign viewers, THIS IS THE COLBERT REPORT!"

I am the queen of obtaining on-campus (aka final) interviews, but losing out to someone else in the end. So far, Kent-Stark, OSU, and Toledo have rejected me. Still waiting for Urbana and OU.

I really need to see Firefly.

I also really need to stop crushing on unavailable (aka dating, married, or far away) guys. I'm guessing this one is a little more important than Firefly. I'm also afraid the guy I like that is semi-available will become unavailable before I get a chance.

Am I a horrible person for being slightly happy when something bad happens to someone I can't stand?

Am I the only one who thinks that anonymous commenting is generally lame? (No offense, anonymous comment meme enjoyers.)

Does anybody want to see Prairie Home Companion at the Athena with me this weekend?

Please tell me I'm not crazy. [12 Jun 2006|10:48pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

So there's this guy that I've been arguing with. He is extremely anti-gay. Not to the point of violence, but to the point where he wants the entire LGBT community and their supporters to stop or leave the country so that he can raise his traditional Christian family. Oh, and homosexuality is a psychological disorder (on par with pedophilia) that requires rehabilitation. Riiiiiight.

If he thinks being gay is wrong...alright, I can stomach that. Barely. What I absolutely do not understand is his argument that the government should legislate against the LGBT community because God says homosexuality is wrong. Does he not understand that this is America? America is about freedom. He argues that the Founding Fathers were moral, Christian men. Perhaps so. But even they realized that religion and government should be separate. Christianity is not our country's official religion. We HAVE no official religion.

Seriously, he supports the democratic process, but only when the votes go his way. He is disappointed in the Senators. Well, guess what? They were elected and they voted how they voted. Deal with it. If Massachusetts decides to allow gay marriage, deal with that, too! I have to deal with a President that I hate and a war that I oppose on many levels. But the fact is, he got elected. Whining isn't going to change anything.

My friend, Anthony, made a good point when I mentioned his ludicrous suggestion that homosexuals need to get the hell out of Dodge. "Maybe we don't want so many closed-minded hate-filled people living in OUR town either," he said. I responded that I agreed, but at least we are intelligent enough to realize that in America you can't just tell someone to move because you disagree with them.

Presentation help [11 Jun 2006|12:16pm]
[ mood | creative ]

Tomorrow morning I am interviewing at OU for the position of Admissions Advisor. Part of the interview process is that I need to give a 10-15 minute presentation on OU. I am curious as to what you fellow Bobcats think should definitely be included. I'm going to give background info, academic info, talk about things to do at OU and in Athens. Other ideas? Thanks in advance.

[ mood | pessimistic ]

I'm about to give up on finding a boyfriend. Which is silly, I know, because I'm only 24. I'm just getting really frustrated. The guy I had my first relationship with - a junior high summer camp romance - is getting married today. I found him on Myspace and discovered all sorts of cute pictures of them on their honeymoon fundraising page. Ugh!

Then, a couple nights ago, a guy I met who goes to OSU came down to hear me play at Blue Gator with Fokushima. He is really awesome and we have great chemistry. Unfortunately, he met another girl 3 weeks earlier. And while he likes me a lot, he likes her a little bit more. Double ugh!

My ex and his gf are moving into a new house. I don't even like him anymore, but sometimes I still wish we were together. It's weird. When they engaged...oh man, I'm gonna be a wreck.

To top it all off, I still don't have a job. Does anyone know anything about the Stark campus of Kent State in Canton? I have a 2nd interview there on Wednesday...

[18 Apr 2006|10:39am]
[ mood | busy ]

Just so people aren't "wtf?", I think I will go to the JCON meeting after all. I didn't even go to the grab bag since it was my birthday, but after everything that has happened I still feel personally invested in the situation. Not to mention I care about my friends and the club, and want to defend the integrity and value of both. Plus, I'm just damn curious to see how it will all play out. I have my suspicions, but you never know. I hope it somehow involves a random moogle.

I haven't been using this thing much at all. I think it's time I get back to it. For starters, today is crazy busy. I supervise some LINKS counselors, and I have one-on-one meetings at 11:00, 11:30, and 12:00. Then I'm grabbing a quick bite at 12:30, meeting with a Career Services professional at 1:00, invesigating a job possibility at 2:00, another one-on-one at 3:00, class 4:00-7:00, and JCON from 7:00 until the end of time. I'd like to throw in homework at some point. Oh, and to my former OU Success buddies...time management. Do as I say, not as I do. : )

Not that you care, but just so you know [17 Apr 2006|01:13am]
[ mood | cranky ]

I should have known better than to comment in the JCON LJ. For one, I honestly don't care all that much. I haven't been going to events much recently and I am graduating in June. And practically everything there is being met with excuses or disagreement. It's odd that so many people can all be wrong about nearly every single point they make...

But anyway, I probably won't be there on Tuesday or anytime thereafter. I say this not to cause drama or get attention because, like I said, nobody is going to care either way. I say it only because I did comment in the LJ and I don't want my lack of attendance to be misunderstood as anything but me setting priorities for my life.

Moving on.

I need a job. Preferably in Columbus, but definitely in Ohio. Anything entry-level with a decent salary and benefits. I'm not picky. I just want to be employed by the summer. *crosses fingers*

JCON elections were last night, right? I hope they went well. I wish I could have been there, but I had made plans a while back. I'm curious as to who won, though.

So yeah, that's it. Good luck with finals, everybody. And happy spring break if I don't see you before then.
